Appleton is a large detached home containing 7 single bedroomed, self-contained flatlets for service users with a mental disorder and associated complex needs in Bitterne, a well-established residential area of Southampton.

Each flatlet offers individual rooms with en-suite facilities and a kitchenette to encourage independence and self-determination. There is also a large lounge/dining area, utility area and a large kitchen in the main house to encourage social interaction and a community sprit.

To the rear is a large, landscaped garden area with a veranda, a barbeque and fish pond.

The location of the home makes access to public transport and Southampton town centre very easy. The home has its own ‘people carrier’ vehicle to take service users to their chosen activities.

Philosophy

We offer a service tailored to the complex needs of the individual enabling the resident to integrate safely within the local community therefore achieving full citizenship. A supportive and safe environment encourages development of the individual promoting self determination and empowering the individual to take responsibility for their lives/ behaviours.

We support the resident to meet individual goals and aspirations with dignity upholding the rights of the individual. All service users are encouraged to take a active part in the running of the home, formulation of their specific care plans, risk assessments.

Residents are encouraged in the promotion and achievement of independence with specific tailored plans to enable them to develop and practice key skills, residents are supported by staff at each stage of this process but are empowered to make decisions for themselves

Residents access local colleges for recreational and occupational needs.
