Job Description: Support Worker

PURPOSE OF POSITION

  • To assist Service Users with Learning Disabilities and associated Mental Disorders
  • To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of Service Users in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence
  • To help in the care of the Service Users physical environment and in the general day to day activities of the Home
  • To take delegated responsibilities in the charge of the Service Users under your care, to the appropriate level
  • To proactively work towards maximizing each individual Service Users potential
  • To assist Service Users with physical needs i.e. eating, washing, bathing, incontinence as required
  • To promote Service Users independence and living skills
  • To support Service Users with physical needs i.e. eating, washing, bathing, incontinence.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To work flexibly within the 24hour rota as directed by the Manager to meet the needs of the home and Service Users
  • Help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of Service Users through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations
  • Cook meals, serve meals, assist Service Users to cook meals, wash up utensils
  • Answer emergency bells, the door and the telephone, greet visitors in a polite and courteous manner
  • Read and write reports in case notes
  • Take part in staff and Service Users meetings
  • To take part in training activities as required
  • Assist a senior member of staff, who has been assessed as competent, with medication administration
  • To participate in outings and holidays with the people living in the Home
  • To adhere to the code of conduct as set by the General Social Care Council
  • To attend Service Users reviews if required, as directed
  • To support, educate Service Users in appropriate behaviors
  • To support Service Users in appropriate interactions in the community
  • To attend support/supervision sessions within the Home
  • To educate/support Service Users to manage their own finances
  • Any other such reasonable duties that may be required
